best-of-2008: For the first time in decades, Nebraska received attention from presidential candidates. One of the most energetic visits was by Sen. Barack Obama, who greeted a charged crowd at a packed Omaha Civic Auditorium on February 7. One of the challenges to covering events like this is lack of access for local media. After finding out where Obama would enter the Auditorium, I squeezed in next to a barricade behind handicapped seating. Assuming he would greet Democrat supporters, I just hoped I could get a couple frames before people in front of me stood up. I got lucky, but just barely.
